"Estelle’s role as Director for New Initiatives is more extensive than grant preparation and includes program design, implementation, management, and evaluation. She prepares grant proposals that are designed to deliver. Activities are evidence-based and implementation strategies draw on our organizational strengths of volunteer mobilization and cross-sector collaboration. She chooses data collection and evaluation approaches that enable data-driven decisions and are not overly cumbersome to collect and analyze. Positive results follow. For example, her first project involved a mixed-performance group of sixth grade boys. At the end of the first year, the low-performing students out-performed the rest of their sixth-grade peers in math grades and school attendance. Her current project, the Saturday Leadership Program, aims for a citywide reach and delivers. The program serves students from 40 schools and 49 neighborhoods."
